Paphiopedilum (Lady's slipper orchids)Lady's slipper Orchids at Dalat, VietnamThe popular name for Pephiopedilums is Lady's Slipper, because the third petal is modified to form a pouch that looks similar to a lady's slipper. This genus contains approximately 70 species of primary terrestrial orchids ranging from India and China throughout Southeast Asia. The leaves are quite often attractive with green or mottled green and white colors. More than 1000 of hybrids exist. Another orchid family, Phragmipedium, is also have shape of a slipper.
