White sapote (Casimiroa edulis Llave & Lex) is native to central Mexico. The white sapote is an old California fruit and is liked by most people who taste it. The fruit is said to be soporific and have an effect upon the central nervous system, hence the name Matasano, but it is pleasing and wholesome.
