Cholla is a term applied to various shrubby cacti of the genus Opuntia with cylindrical stems composed of segmented joints. Tree Cholla cactus are found in all of the hot deserts of the American Southwest, with different species having adapted to different locale and elevation ranges. Tree Cholla can be planted in zones 5 thru 11 and are adaptive to any well drained coarse soil type.
