Bloodroot is a perennial, herbaceous flowering plant native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia, Canada southward to Florida, United States. The double flowering forms are prized by gardeners for their large showy white flowers, which are produced very early in the gardening season. A break in the surface of the plant, especially the roots, reveals a reddish sap.
