Vietnamse "Cay canh" (Bonsai) displayed in Hanoi, Vietnam. A bonsai show opened in Ha Noi from November 5 to November 30, 2006, as part of various activities in the city to welcome the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in Vietnam. The bonsai in this page includes plants displayed at a public part near Ho Hoan Kiem (Lake of the returned sword) and plants from the Ha Noi Association of Ornamental Creatures exhibiting at the Van Mieu-Quoc Tu Giam (Temple of Literature). Most of the Bonsai in Vietnam cannot be compared to the classic Japanese Style Bonsai and is more like the Chinese styles (penjing). It is much bigger than the Japanese average tree size and the style is not as strict. The size of the trees and pots is rather big compared with the classic Bonsai and many can probably be better defined as potted landscape trees. "Cay canh" in Vietnamese means "tree and landscape" which is closed to penjing (potted landscape). Since Vietnam is a tropical country, most of bonsai plants are tropical. The most popular bonsai in this exhibition is ficus, especially Ficus virens.
