Minority Peoples in Sapa, Vietnam. View as slide show. |
Vietnam has 54 ethnic groups. Most of the minority peoples live in the mountainous areas in the North and central Vietnam. In Sapa, you will see two main ethnic minorities, Hmong and Dao. The minorities keep their traditional clothes, way of life and their own languages, each tribe speaks it own.
Most of them spend all day long working on the fields. However, you can see people belonging to many tribes in the streets of Sapa selling their handmade souvenirs. In this page, you will see the Red Dao and the Hmong. We call Red Dao because they wear a red scarf on their head. Some of the women have shaved off their hair and eyebrows because of a nice Red Dao’s Legend. Hmong is one of the largest ethnic minorities in Vietnam. They have their own languages and wear traditional indigo blue clothing. The Hmong in this page is Black Hmong who wear black clothes. Back to Vietnam page. |
