| Corn aka maize (Zea mays ssp. mays). Maize is a cereal grain that was domesticated in Mesoamerica. It spread to the rest of the world after European contact with the Americas in the late 15th century and early 16th century. It is called corn in the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia, but in other countries that term may refer to other cereal grains. In the United States and Canada, the primary use for maize is as a feed for livestock, forage, silage or grain.
