The Mahabodhi Temple ("Great Awakening Temple") is a Buddhist temple in Bodh Gaya, the location where Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, attained enlightenment. This is the most popular place for Buddhist pilgrimage to India. Pilgrimages are not too important in Buddhism because one can get enlightenment anywhere, but for those who wish to do this devotional and respectful practice, the Mahabodhi complex is clearly the most important place.
