Trip to Kunming from Lao Cai, Vietnam.
We took a tour to Kunming from Hanoi in early January, 2007. From Hanoi, we took a train to Lao Cai, then crossed the border and went to Kunming by a Chinese-made minivan. The road is narrow, winding and uphill through the mountainous area of Yunnan. Kunming, capital of Yunnan Province, with a history of more than 2400 years, it was the gateway to the celebrated Silk Road that facilitated trade with Tibet, Sichuan, Myanmar and India.
On the road to Kunming, we stopped and stayed overnight at Luuxi county, about 120 miles from Kunming. The next day, we visited an ancient Alu cave, then continued to Kunming. At Kunming, we visited some attractions including the Golden temple, Daguan Park, Western Hills and Stone Forest. |
